A new feature that nobody seems to have blogged about is that RAD Studio 2010 can switch between languages. You can now have an English IDE and compile against a German RTL/VCL or the other way round.
- The first indication of that new feature is that the installer shows you a list of checkboxes “English”, “German”, “French”, “Japanese”.
- The next indication (that helped me to find this feature) is the new option dialog node “Library – translated”.
- Another indication are the new sub directories $(BDS)\lib\de and $(BDS)\lib\fr (depending on what languages you’ve installed)
But how does it work? The paths in the “Library – translated” option dialog node use the $(LANGDIR) macro. But it didn’t work if I’ve set it in the “Environment variables” node. By inspecting the $(BDS)\bin directory I finally found “BDSSetLang.exe”. With that little tool you can switch the IDE’s UI language and/or the RTL/VCL language.
Can I customize any other language not in the list?
That’s something you must try yourself. Or you ask Embarcadero about this. I’ve only found this undocumented/un-blogged feature.
This feature is not realy undocumented, i found it in the rad-studion 2010 feature-matrix

on page 3 “INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT”
Good point.
But there is no information how to “easily switch” the languages. Or I haven’t found it yet. (The German Delphi Help files are a step backward from Delphi 2009 in my eyes)
